On August 28th and 29th, the Federal Revenue Service launched an operation against piracy, smuggling, and tax evasion in downtown Parnaíba and surrounding areas. The operation resulted in the seizure of 520 bags of illegally traded goods.

The recalled products include cell phones, video games, shoes, clothing, bags, backpacks, toys, and electronic devices such as speakers and headphones. Some of the materials were counterfeit, while others lacked Anatel certification and the Inmetro seal, posing a direct risk to consumer safety.

“Cell phone chargers with ferrous alloy plugs, for example, can cause short circuits and even fires,” the IRS highlighted.

Task force

The operation involved 35 Federal Revenue Service employees, 46 military police officers, three Anatel technicians, and two Inmetro employees, as well as lawyers representing affected brands. In total, 14 commercial establishments were inspected, selected based on IRS investigations and complaints filed by law firms.

The seized material was sent for storage at the Federal Highway Police facility.

Combating unfair competition

According to the Federal Revenue Service, the trade in counterfeit products causes losses to business owners and generates unfair competition, in addition to exposing consumers to risks. The agency emphasizes that it maintains ongoing operations against smuggling and tax evasion, working to protect society and defend fair competition.
