The operation was supported by the Civil Police and a law firm specializing in trademark registration and protection.

In total, three commercial establishments were targeted by the operation.

Agents seized 281 volumes of goods, including clothing, footwear, perfumes, toys, thermal cups, electronics, and other items of illegal origin.

The seized cargo was enough to fill a truck and two vans.

Illegal products and health risks

In addition to constituting the crime of illegal importation and counterfeiting, the sale of counterfeit goods poses serious risks to the health and safety of consumers.

Perfumes and cosmetics without health controls, toys without safety certification, and low-quality electronics can cause immediate or long-term damage.

Authorities warn that many of these products are manufactured without any quality standards, using harmful raw materials or unsafe components.

Unfair competition and damage to the economy

According to the Federal Revenue Service, the sale of counterfeit products directly affects merchants who operate regularly, causing unfair competition and loss of tax revenue.

“These practices discourage entrepreneurs who operate within the law and undermine the local economy,” said a representative of the agency.

Legal implications and penalties

The illegal importation and sale of counterfeit goods are classified by law as crimes punishable by forfeiture of assets, fines, and criminal liability.

Those involved may be charged with receiving stolen goods, smuggling, embezzlement, and crimes against industrial property.

Ongoing enforcement actions

The Federal Revenue Service emphasized that operations such as the one in Santo Ângelo are part of an ongoing effort to reduce the trade of illegal products in the state.

The goal is to protect consumers, preserve the economy, and ensure that companies comply with legal requirements.

The public can help by reporting suspicious establishments through the Federal Revenue Service's reporting channel, which guarantees the confidentiality of the whistleblower.
