Civil police officers from the General Police Department of the Capital (DGPC) and the Police Station for the Suppression of Crimes Against Intangible Property (DRCPIM), with the support of military police officers from the Special Stadium Policing Battalion (BEPE), carried out on Tuesday night (August 19), an operation against piracy in the vicinity of the Maracanã stadium. The objective was to combat the sale of counterfeit products emulating symbols of soccer clubs and famous brands. In total, six people were arrested in flagrante delicto and more than 400 items were seized.
The operation targeted street vendors selling items such as shirts and caps with team logos.
The seized material was sent for technical analysis, and an investigation will be opened to identify others involved in the production and distribution chain of counterfeit items. The Civil Police emphasizes that counterfeiting products not only harms legally established brands but also damages the formal economy and may be associated with other criminal practices, such as financing criminal organizations.
