The Civil Police shut down the production of counterfeit perfumes after raiding an illegal factory in the city of Franca, in the interior of São Paulo state. The operation, carried out on Wednesday (13), resulted in one arrest and the seizure of more than 5,000 bottles, chemicals, and packaging used in the illegal manufacture and sale of the fragrances.
The investigation began after an anonymous tip indicated that the property, located in the Parque Residencial Nova Franca neighborhood, was being used to counterfeit perfumes that imitated various brands.
Based on this information, teams from the Narcotics Investigation Division (Dise) began monitoring the address and observed that “employees” were wearing personal protective equipment. The case was referred to the courts, which issued a search and seizure warrant.
During the search, agents found that the person in charge had authorization to manufacture his own products but also maintained a parallel operation dedicated to producing counterfeit perfumes that imitated various brands.
In total, authorities seized 3,600 small bottles, 480 large bottles, 1,800 units already packaged and ready for shipment, and 450 empty containers. Police also found 20 gallons of essential oils, 26 50-liter containers of chemicals, adhesive labels imitating various brands, bottles of fragrances, and an industrial filling machine. A car belonging to the suspect was also seized. The counterfeit products were sold online.
Tests were requested, and forensic experts visited the property to analyze the products and the structure of the clandestine manufacturing operation. According to the investigation, the facility was operating without the required permits.
The man responsible for production is 23 years old and was arrested in the act for counterfeiting, corruption, and the adulteration or alteration of products intended for therapeutic or medicinal purposes. The case was filed by the Dise in Franca. After judicial police procedures, he was transferred to the city’s public jail and remained in custody pending trial.
