The meeting of the Council of Business Federations of Santa Catarina (Cofem) on Monday, 15, addressed the fight against piracy and the losses caused by counterfeiting. The meeting was attended by the State Council for Combating Piracy (Cecop SC).
The president of Cecop SC, Jair Antonio Schmitt, demonstrated the impacts of illegal trade in Brazil, which totaled R$ 468 billion in 2024. Among the most affected sectors are: clothing, alcoholic beverages, fuels, sporting goods, personal hygiene, perfumery, and cosmetics.
Cecop SC is linked to the State Secretariat of Industry, Commerce, and Services (Sicos). The collegiate body coordinates actions to combat illegal trade, tax evasion, and crimes. In addition, it promotes tax education initiatives.
“Santa Catarina is the only state in the federation to have an anti-piracy council with these characteristics. Cecop SC's initiatives seek to promote legality and protect intellectual property rights, contributing to a fairer and safer economic environment. In this sense, dialogue with the productive sector is fundamental,” says Jair Schmitt.
Cofem is part of the Federations of Industries (Fiesc), Commerce (Fecomércio), Agriculture (Faesc), Transportation (Fetrancesc), Business Associations (Facisc), Chambers of Store Managers (FCDL), Micro and Small Businesses (Fampesc), in addition to Sebrae SC.
