An inspection operation carried out by the Federal Revenue Service in Bocaiuva on Thursday (10) resulted in the seizure of products valued at approximately R$ 500,000. The action focused on combating smuggling, embezzlement, and the sale of irregular items.

During the inspection of six commercial establishments, electronics, beverages, and other foreign goods were found to have been brought into the country without proper documentation. According to the agency, the products were not accompanied by documentation proving their legal importation.

The Federal Revenue Service explained that smuggling refers to the entry of prohibited goods into Brazil, while embezzlement involves attempting to evade the payment of taxes on legally permitted imports. Both constitute violations of customs legislation.

In addition to compromising tax collection, these practices represent a loss to legal trade and put consumers at risk due to the possible lack of quality control and safety of the products sold.

The action is part of a series of measures adopted by the Federal Revenue Service to curb tax evasion, combat the informal market, and ensure fair competition in the retail sector.
