Fighting piracy: Nearly one million counterfeit soccer jerseys have been seized in recent months

The Federal Revenue Service has already seized nearly one million counterfeit soccer jerseys in operations and seizures carried out in recent months. Data released by the Federal Revenue Service show the preliminary tally, including four major seizures recorded in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Roraima.
In total, more than 965,500 jerseys were seized during operations at the Port of Santos (SP), ports in Rio de Janeiro, Galeão Airport (RJ), and the Boa Vista highway (RR).

Port of Santos – 428,000 jerseys (seizures from the last three months)
Ports of Rio de Janeiro – 285,000 shirts (three operations)
Roraima – more than 500 shirts (raid on a transport company)

ECONOMIC LOSS
The nearly one million shirts seized have a market value of approximately R$ 50 million, according to tax authorities. This would amount to tax evasion of nearly R$ 39 million.
SEIZED SHIRTS
According to the agency, the seized jerseys included those of the national teams of Brazil, Canada, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Germany, and Japan, as well as Brazilian clubs such as Santos, Botafogo, Portuguesa, Flamengo, and Atlético Mineiro.
