The Health Surveillance Department of the Itabuna Health Secretariat seized more than 600 bottles of perfume from a commercial establishment specializing in imported products. According to the City Hall, the products were not registered with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The agency announced the seizure on Wednesday (23).

An anonymous tip led inspectors to the address, which was not disclosed by the municipality. According to the coordinator of the Health Surveillance Agency, Iêda Silva, the perfumes also did not have a batch number and had an error in the spelling of the date of manufacture.

The coordinator said that Health Surveillance does not have legal authority to investigate counterfeit products, but can act in cases like this, since the goods were not registered with Anvisa, a legal requirement for sale in Brazil.

The coordinator emphasized that it is not the role of Health Surveillance to determine whether the products are counterfeit or not, but the absence of Anvisa registration is sufficient to remove them from circulation.

According to Iêda Silva, the establishment's license does not authorize the sale of perfumes. The case was referred to the Civil Police for investigation.
