Operation "Bacamarte" Combats Counterfeit Products in Businesses in Campina Grande

A joint operation by the Civil Police and the Federal Revenue Service inspected seven retail locations and seized counterfeit shoes and clothing.
The Paraíba Civil Police, through the Fraud and Counterfeiting Division of the 22nd DSPC and the Regional Superintendency, launched a joint operation with the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service on Wednesday. Dubbed Operation Bacamarte, the operation focused on inspecting commercial establishments and combating crimes of smuggling, embezzlement, and violations of intellectual property rights.
The task force mobilized 18 civil police officers and 38 Federal Revenue Service agents, supported by 15 patrol cars, three trucks, and a cargo van. In total, seven commercial locations were inspected in Campina Grande—four in the city center and the rest in the neighborhoods of Castelo Branco, Cruzeiro, and São José.
During the inspections, agents seized a significant quantity of footwear and clothing items showing signs of counterfeiting registered trademarks. Samples of the seized items were collected and sent for forensic analysis to the Campina Grande Forensic Center, where technical reports on the authenticity of the products will be issued.
The Civil Police reported that the investigations will proceed under the Industrial Property Law (Law No. 9,279/1996), based on Article 190, without ruling out other legal classifications as the investigations progress. The agency emphasized that this coordinated effort aims to curb unfair competition, protect the formal market, and hold those involved accountable.
