Operation "Barba Negra" seizes around 3,000 pairs of counterfeit shoes in Corumbá

A combined operation between Federal Revenue Customs and the Corumbá Federal Police has seized around 3,000 pairs of counterfeit sports shoes of various brands. This is another phase of Operation "Barba Negra do Pantanal II".

The seizure took place in a store on Delamare Street, in the heart of the city. In addition to the sneakers displayed on the shelves, there was a large quantity of products stored in the warehouse. Expert reports confirmed that the products were counterfeit.

Diário Corumbaense found that the sneakers were being sold for 70 reais at the store. The counterfeit models of renowned brands come from other states, causing losses to tax collection and to shopkeepers who sell original products and work legally.

The Federal Revenue Service did not provide any further information so as not to jeopardize the data collection and inspection of the control bodies.

Complaints

The operation seeks to combat illegal trade, which violates intellectual property rights (IPR). The name, “Barba Negra” (Blackbeard), is a reference to one of the most famous pirates of the Golden Age of Piracy, who operated between 1716 and 1718.

The public can collaborate with complaints via the Federal Revenue Service's WhatsApp number (67) 99137-7463.

Losses

According to recent surveys, in 2023 the illicit market caused an estimated US$ 70 billion in damage to the Brazilian economy. It prevented the creation of approximately 370,000 jobs and caused a loss of R$24 billion in tax revenue.
