Operation Protetor results in the seizure of a convoy with smuggled and embezzled goods in Ponta Porã


Last Tuesday (07), the Civil Police, through the Border Crimes Repression Office (DEFRON), launched Operation Protetor, culminating in the interception of a convoy made up of eight vehicles loaded with smuggled and embezzled goods. The incident took place at around 10.30am, on the MS 378 highway, in the Corona region, located in the municipality of Ponta Porã, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.


The action is part of DEFRON's strategy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, to combat cross-border crimes, including smuggling, drug trafficking and firearms, as well as rural crimes. During an ostentatious patrol, police officers spotted and intercepted the convoy of vehicles on the MS 378 highway, but when the drivers noticed the police presence, they abandoned the cars and fled through the cornfields adjacent to the highway.


After a thorough inspection of the vehicles, it was found that they were all loaded with counterfeit and misdirected products. The following were seized: eight (08) motor vehicles, 33 cartons of cigarettes, several cartons of lighters, cartons of glasses, 10 tires, cartons of cosmetics, cartons of watches, among other counterfeit/ misdirected products.


The seized vehicles, along with the illicit goods, were sent to DEFRON headquarters in Dourados for accounting and other legal procedures.The total value of the loss to crime, taking into account the goods and vehicles seized, is estimated at approximately BRL 800,000.00.
