Operation Réplica Combats Tax Evasion and the Sale of Counterfeit Goods at a Store in Salvador

A store located in Salvador was caught by Operation Réplica engaging in fraud and tax evasion, with inventory of counterfeit goods totaling R$ 445,900, without tax documentation—primarily clothing, sneakers, perfumes, eyewear, and watches. The raid was carried out on February 24 by the State Department of Finance (Sefaz-Ba), the Superintendence of Consumer Protection and Defense (Procon-Ba), and the Civil and Military Police. The operation will continue throughout Bahia.

According to Sefaz-Ba, goods originating from the state of São Paulo were found in stock without tax documentation, resulting in a total of R$ 182,800 in taxes and fines. In addition, the card terminal (credit, debit, and PIX) used by the establishment did not match the company’s CNPJ; it was being used under a “straw man’s” name to evade tax authorities and avoid paying taxes. During the operation, inspectors counted the entire inventory, drew up a Seizure Report with a Designated Custodian, and collected samples for forensic analysis.

With Operation Réplica, the State Government took another step forward in the fight against fraud and tax evasion. This specific operation demonstrates the operation of an illegal scheme present throughout the country, which must be combated through rigorous enforcement.
