In the early hours of Tuesday (29), the Military Police seized a vehicle loaded with products of foreign origin in the district of Sanga Puitã, in Ponta Porã, MS. The action took place around 3:30 a.m. during a routine patrol by a team from the 3rd Military Police Group, when the officers spotted a silver Fiat Siena speeding out of a dark alley in the border region between Brazil and Paraguay, known as the “cigarette route.”
According to the police report, the car was traveling with its headlights off and its windows completely darkened, making it difficult to see inside. Faced with the suspicious situation, the garrison began a tactical pursuit and activated its sirens and lights to approach the vehicle. The driver, however, disobeyed the order to stop and began to flee at high speed through the district's streets, endangering the safety of pedestrians and drivers.
The chase continued along the BR-463 highway towards Dourados, until the suspect turned off onto a side road heading towards the Lagunita region. About 500 meters ahead, the driver abandoned the car in the middle of a cornfield and fled on foot. Despite searches carried out at the scene, the individual was not located.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, police officers found several goods of foreign origin, including six boxes of watches and a box of glasses, characterizing the crime of smuggling.
The vehicle was taken to the police station to file a police report and was later forwarded to the Federal Revenue Service for appropriate action.
