On Tuesday morning (29), the Federal Highway Police seized an illegal shipment of alcoholic beverages. The operation took place on the BR-285 highway in Ijuí.

During routine patrols, police officers stopped a Pálio with license plates from David Canabarro/RS. Upon inspecting the vehicle, they found that it was loaded with alcoholic beverages stored in the cargo compartment. Among the products were 216 bottles of sparkling wine and liqueurs.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from Ciríaco/RS, and the passenger, a 33-year-old woman from Passo Fundo/RS, had already been caught three other times by the PRF illegally importing beverages into Brazil.

The vehicle and the beverages were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service. The driver and passenger will be charged with the crime of smuggling.

The crime of smuggling represents unfair competition with merchants regularly established in Brazil, contributing to the reduction of formal jobs and also causing damage to the country's economy.
