Truck with 1,500 pairs was detained at the Levy Gasparian Tax Barrier

State Revenue Auditors, in a joint action with agents from Operation Focus, intercepted a shipment of sneakers with strong signs of counterfeiting on Thursday afternoon (03/07). The raid took place at the Levy Gasparian Tax Barrier, on the border between the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
The cargo, made up of approximately 1,500 pairs of sneakers, was being transported in a truck bound for the capital of Rio de Janeiro. In situations like this - where there is evidence of piracy, but the goods are accompanied by an invoice - the role of Sefaz-RJ's inspection is to prevent counterfeit products from reaching the consumer market. In these cases, the Civil Police are called in to carry out forensics and confirm the counterfeit. If it is found, the items are seized and disposed of.
Although it does not initially constitute a tax offense, the State Revenue Service has been working in an integrated manner with other agencies to combat piracy, helping to inhibit unfair competition and protect the formal economy.
