The suspect had already been arrested for the same crime in Mato Grosso do Sul.
A man was arrested this Saturday (25) for smuggling after he was found transporting women’s sunglasses, blouses, and handbags without tax receipts on a rural road in Santo Expedito (SP).
According to information released this Sunday (26) by the Military Police, the incident occurred when officers spotted a vehicle exiting a local dirt road; upon noticing the police car, the driver suddenly accelerated, prompting the officers to immediately pull the vehicle over for inspection.
During the search of the vehicle, 5,000 pairs of sunglasses and prescription glasses were found, along with dozens of women’s blouses and handbags.
The driver admitted to the police that he had picked up the goods in Campo Grande (MS) and was transporting them to Presidente Prudente (SP), further revealing that he carried out these illegal shipments about four times a week in exchange for payment.
Upon checking official records, the officers found that the man already had a criminal record for the same offense, having been arrested in Mato Grosso do Sul a few months ago for smuggling.
The vehicle and its entire cargo were taken to the Federal Police Station in Presidente Prudente.
The goods and the car were seized.
The man was arrested and remains in custody pending trial.
