A Civil Police operation carried out on Thursday (12) removed more than 3,000 counterfeit products from the shelves of various shopping malls in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The aim of the operation was to combat piracy and protect the population from the sale of illegal items.

The inspection was conducted by the Police Station for the Suppression of Crimes Against Intangible Property (DRCPIM), which operated in Botafogo, Del Castilho, Ilha do Governador, Barra da Tijuca, and Campo Grande. In most of the establishments, goods were found that attempted to imitate famous international brands and were sold without authorization and tax documentation.

Among the items seized were school supplies, cartoon key chains, bottles, and even sleep masks. Store managers were taken to the police station to clarify the sales of the items and in an attempt to identify those involved in the production of the counterfeit items.

In addition to violating intellectual property rights by selling products that do not meet the original brand standards, the agents reported that piracy can harm the health of consumers, including children, as the items were produced without supervision and may contain toxic substances such as lead and other metals.
