Over a ton of children's toys seized in Belo Horizonte city center

In order to ensure the safety of children, the Federal Revenue Office carried out, on this Tuesday morning (11), the operation "Safe Child", which ended with the seizure of more than a ton of toys in the central region of Belo Horizonte.

According to the Division for the Repression of Smuggling and Embezzlement of the Federal Revenue Office, the operation was launched with the support of the Military Police (PM). "The purpose of the operation is to combat the commercialisation of counterfeit and irregularly imported toys and to ensure the safety of children. The action took place in two wholesale distributors and retailers in the region, "said the agency.

In all, 1.5 tonnes of goods were seized, which, according to the IRS, are valued at BRL 1 million. All the material will be sent to the Deposit of Seized Goods of the Federal Revenue Office and will have the "penalty of forfeiture" decreed.

"In addition to responding administratively, those responsible for the goods may also respond for the crime of smuggling, which is the irregular importation of goods," he added.

The objective of the operation is to prevent the circulation of products potentially harmful to health and the environment in national territory. In addition, this type of action also inhibits the practice of crimes that generate unemployment, tax evasion and unfair competition.
