The Municipal Health Surveillance Agency of Pouso Alegre shut down a clothing store for selling weight loss pens. An anonymous tip led to an inspection of the establishment.

In the store, inspectors found several bottles of the drug Tirzepatida manufactured in Paraguay. The product is not registered with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and is therefore prohibited in Brazil. The Health Surveillance Agency shut down the store, seized the drugs, and notified the Civil Police.

In a statement, the Health Surveillance Agency of Pouso Alegre emphasizes that the sale, storage, or distribution of medicines without registration with Anvisa, especially in establishments without health authorization, is a serious offense and poses a risk to public health. It warns that consumers who purchase these pens illegally run the risk of using a product that arrived in Brazil without proper conditions for use.

The Civil Police arrested the store owner, who is suspected of selling the drugs. The police took him to the Pouso Alegre prison system, and he will face charges for crimes of counterfeiting, adulteration, or alteration of products intended for therapeutic or medicinal purposes.

Investigations are continuing to fully ascertain the facts.
