Seizure of slimming pens by the Federal Highway Police

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized a significant number of bottles of medication known as “weight loss pens” during an inspection on the Presidente Dutra Highway, located in southern Rio de Janeiro state. This action, which took place on Saturday (14), is part of Operation Athena, a PRF initiative aimed at intensifying policing and inspections on federal highways. The focus of the operation is to combat smuggling, the illegal transport of goods, and crimes associated with public health.

The PRF approached the vehicle at around 2 p.m. near Itatiaia. Police officers from the Tactical Patrol Group (GPT), who are linked to the 7th PRF Police Station in Resende, intercepted a vehicle with three occupants, all residents of Rio de Janeiro. The individuals reported that they had recently returned from Paraguay.

During a search of the car, PRF agents found 269 bottles of Tirzepatida, as well as 12 KLOW GHK-Cu pens, two 3 ml Retatrutide pens, and ten boxes of Retatrutide pens. These substances are associated with treatments for type 2 diabetes and weight control, but their importation and sale require prior authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

The products were seized on suspicion of smuggling and embezzlement. The case was referred to the Federal Police in Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which will take responsibility for the investigation. The PRF emphasized that inspections will continue to be intensified on federal highways in the state, especially on routes that are frequently used for the irregular transport of goods.
